Going to have a days pike fishing at lake coniston on sat 02/10/10 ,this is the first visit to this venue,so hopes are high ,my mate jeff has been before and so knows the ropes [or i hope he does lol] mick however has decided to go sea fishing instead, so there is only the two of us on this trip, got my fingers crossed as i like fishing new venues, gets you out of the house for a few hours thats for sure ,will post report with pictures when i get back [if we catch anything]

Well we set off at 5.30am and we got to coniston at about 8.00am got the gear set up ,jeff went 1 pike rod and one course rod,i decided to go 2 pike ,one on the float and one on the bottom ,none of us however had any idea how deep this part of the lake was, until that is i decided to plumb the depth.I was casting about 30 metres out and started of with a 10 foot drop ,float righted itself ,then i went to 15 feet, again the float righted itself ,to cut a long story short i ended up with a 30 foot drop on the float and it still didn't touch the bottom and so i let it drift into the side about 15 feet out, that's where it touched the bottom,we could not believe how deep it was,i then took a heavy spinner and cast it about 50mtrs ,it took 27 seconds to hit the bottom,we both new that this was way to deep and there was no drop off ,most of the places were taken and so we had to make the most of it ,jeff got a run after about 50mins,and that was the sum total of our fishing trip, nothing much more to say, scenery spectacular, saw a steam boat go up and down a few times----would i go back again --Dam right i would, beats sitting in the house all day and we loved the drive up and back, sorry we didn't take any pictures ,but we caught no fish lol, mabe better luck next time

Nice review mate, shame you did not catch. I'm thinking on going the QE2 again soon and go Pike fishing (not been for about 7 years).

At least now we have some info on the lake! ;)
