Wetted my line in the north sea for the first time ever today. Caught nought but its good to be in such a beautiful part of the world.

Was just idly chucking a light spoon down the bank of the wear from wearmouth bridge to rokers north pier. Haven't caught anything within 750 miles of here yet but thats not the point really so its all good by me.

Used to do a lot of flounder fishing with the spoon,bit further up river,southwick prom,alexander bridge.....cracking sport on the light gear...used to see the flounders follow the spoon right up to the surface sometimes;)

If Southwick prom is where I guess it is , opposite the Liebherr factory , its definately a mark I have in my mind , the fast water their looks very promising.
Thanks for the pointer.

Never done much with the spoon in the winter,but sure it will do the same job,just be less fish there at this time of year...might be worth while taking a bit worm or mackerel strip as you can also pick up whiting and coalies;)

There's some snags up southweick prom so you might struggle with a spoon as now as clean as it used to be. Chuck a bit worm on a size 2 hook and you'll get results

Advice always recieved with gratitude . I havent used bait for many years but I may well resort to some while I get the feel of the waters.
Luckily I am new to the area so wherever I fish I can appreciate the view as a change from dreary old Cornwall.

welcome to the world of s/land,loads of marks to fish on the river all the way to the a19 bridge ,any spot up to there will throw out a couple of flattys ,not sure on the spoon this time of year but you will get results with a bit bait{rag n maccy tip}
did you do much fishing down that way or are you a newby to the sport?.

Fished on and off for 40 years down in Cornwall and before that in the channel islands . My main targets have always been the bass for simplicity and grey mullet when I really wanted a challenge . Lots of dissappointments with mullet lol but taken both species to over 4lb now so ......

Still get the bass around this coastline,not something i have really targetted,but been some nice ones caught over the years,Plenty of whiting,coaleys,flounders and the Cod when they show face;)
