Places to fish

As the schools break up shortly going to take my nephew fishing fancy trying Blyth,Amble, alnwick area but we do not know any fishing places, any info would be greatly appreciated,need good directions as we can easily get lost also best time of the tide.need all the help we can get as the fish have been very scarce lately

Stew,not sure how experienced you are or how old your nephew is,so you could try Blyth harbour or Blyth Pier for starters,easy to find as well,just head to Blyth town centre either ask someone or find The Boathouse pub or Steamboat pub and its directly behind them (next to cop shop) the pier is found by heading north from Seaton Sluice when you hit the roundabout coming into Blyth take the third exit towards the sea front you\'ll see a caravan compound on your right you will have to turn rioght after the caravan yard and park your car on your right in the car park you\'ll be able to see the pier from here,you can also try Amble harbour its very save and again easy to find,Amble is quite a small Fishing Town so just head for the directions for the harbour

I can only agree with alan.f. Amble pier or Blyth pier are great venues to learn. Only one thing, if there is a sea running keep away from Amble pier. As alan says the river up there is safe. Hope you have a good time.

Stew - as far as Amble goes - if your\'re gonna fish the harbour, you only need a VERY short cast. The North side of the river is easily within casting distance BUT there\'s MASSIVE sand banks on that side. So much so, that at low water the river is reduced to about a third of its width (if that !). The deeper water is litterally under your feet.
Also, it should be pointed out, that this being the case, the boat traffic tends to keep to the South side (where you\'d be fishing) - you\'ll need to reel in when you see a boat approaching (either entering, or leaving the harbour).
