im wanting to try for pollock on a spinner and thinking of making a weekend of it just wondering if anyone has any idea's as to where to try been thinking of st marys but not too keen on it any other ideas would be greatful cheers lads daz

i think some of the rock marks around northumberland may be the best bet dun castle rocks , newton , beadnell etc good luck mate :thumbup:

I agree, need to go up the coast a bit. Try a jelly worm on a 3-6ft trace, with a running ledger, slow along the bottom.

i was talkin to one of the lads i meet up with when im out and he mentioned st abbs but also said its a nature reserve not sure how true it is like

realistically dunstanburgh castle, cullernose i'm not that keen on as the water isn't as deep and the bottom fairly featureless.

If your prepared to travel then St.abbs / Eyemouth area is a good alternative option.

Never fished it myself but whitley pipe may throw something up if your wanting to stay local.

I Had a good pollock off dunstinbough last year, you can get them of Shields pier around the blocks, personally i would take the time to go to St Abbs mate, i'll be up there weather permitting on the 31st. When you planning your trip? will have a spare seat if you want to tag along.

WOULD BE DUNSTANBURGH CASTLE FOR ME. BEST FISH I'VE SEEN AND HELPED IN GETTING UP THE CLIFF WAS AN EIGHT POUNDER,CAUGHT ON A 2oz FISH FACE LEAD HEAD WITH AN ORANGE TWIN TAIL. BEST I'VE HAD WAS A SIX POUNDER. WOULDN'T USE TO LIGHT A LINE THOUGH ITS ROUGH GROUND.

what about s/shields pier it can throw out a decent pollock now and then, mind you apart from small uns and a 4lber never seen any decent catches this year , 2 lads who in previous years are regulars fishing for pollock on pier have been absent , so this might be their way of say not many about this year,

im hoping to go out next weekend with a bit of luck considering eyemouth or st abbs like what sort of gear would you recomend would i get away with a 12ft carp rod 2.5 t/c pit reel loaded with 15lb line?

yeah should be fine, i would try floating, keep changing the depth with a stop knot but i wouldn't fish any shallower than 9ft with rag, and spinning with silver spinners, never had much luck with jellys personally. i'd try floating or ledgering as close as you dare to the edge for wrasse.

Beadnell/ seahouses area good bet mate. Decent campsite at Beadnell, right on sea front. Had a lot of decent fish up to 4lb recently on jellyworms and floatfished rag. Beach also good for flatties if you fancy a rest from winding in jellys. Good bar in Beadnell also ( Craster Arms).
