Haven't had much chance to post but had another good weekend over there. Pity the fishing wasn't as good.

Went across to Whithorn on the Saturday to try and shelter from the slight winds. A few pollock and wrasse and plenty mackerel.

My biggest just under 3lb

Biggest of the day for Gary Lowes despite the p*ss take he got for buying the jelly in the picture. Got it on one of my lead heads from the new mould, so they work. 3lb 11oz. Both released.

Sunday spent a bit south of Dunskey Castle. Conditions much more settled but fishing slow. Biggest fish a wrasse for Roger Buzzeo a bit over 2lb. He lost a conger on freelined launce close in estimated at around 7-8lb.
Nice day and bonce is peeling now.

welldone lads nice report, stopped there last year for few days on the caravan park next to dunskey castle ,in our mini hotels(tents)

I'm heading that way myself this weekend. Any advice on best places to fish would be greatly appreciated. Where's a decent place to get a few mackerel or pollack on spinners etc.

Cheers

Terry

Where were you staying Peter, i was up there last weekend but never bothered doing any fishing, i had the gear with me but was mainly trying out my new motorhome, we were staying at the caravan site next to the castle and walked the dog done to the castle several times, saw a few people fihing but in the distance

Thanks for the replies lads.

Was staying in the Braefield guest house, up the hill over looking the harbour. Been there before, very friendly and good breakfast. Couple of the lads were in one right on the front of the harbour and they said it was spot on and nice and clean. We parked in the site next to the castle on Sunday. They don't mind as long as you call in to the shop when you go and ask permission out of courtesy. We were the group in the white mini-bus.

Terry, best thing to do is see which way the wind is and go to the opposite side and get a bit shelter. So if the wind is from the west go towards The Mull and try the East Tarbet side where it'll be a bit calmer. It's not as deep that side though so as the tide drops you don't have the depth of water. I tend to find you get more mackerel that side than in the open water when you need fresh bait.
When it's calm try and look for the bit more remote marks which aren't fished as much and you'll get the better fish. Look for points that have a bit of a tide rip going past.
If it's raining watch the steeper marks as it can get quite slippy. In those conditions I would avoid The Mull itself as it's really steep. The lads tried north of the harbour on the Friday night for a couple of hours when we got there on the yellow rock. Not much caught though. That's not a bad little walk and quite accessible. I hadn't had much sleep after finishing work late the night before so opted for 4 cans of Tenants and a couple of hours sleep before tea and copious amounts of Guiness :D

Codseeker, stayed with the kids on the Sunnymeade site a few weeks ago with the kids. Nice clean site. Couldn't get on the castle site as a school party from Wales was on. Plus the Sunnymeade is about 250 yards closer walk to the pubs.
