well me and my mate scottyds on ere decided to fish the ratty from 7.30pm fri till 4.30am sat,when we got there, there was a few young ones with a nice 3lb codling,we fished near the back of the yacht club for a bit with nothing for me other than logs and branches,my mate got a nice plaice,we then moved to the end of the ratty but sharp left as im s**t scared of rats and today there was no shortage!!
so we went back to the yacht club,baited up and cast out,10 mins passed and then i got a small knock and a slack line,picked rod up and another knock,struck into it and it felt light,as my line got closer in there was a few pulls as if it was dashing,kept reeling and saw a beauty float to the top of the water,as my mate was ready to handball up i heard a big splash.......fish gone
my line had snapped at the hook,me and my mate recconed it was about 6lb but a bloke next to us reconned 7lb+,so it lived to see another day
mafter that we didnt get another bite or owt!!!! baits used were rag,crab,mussel,maccy......cod took rag.

Well done mate shame about the one that got away sounds like a beauty.
myself with Billfish4853 and the one you lost is telling you to get some better hooks as they must be weak and brittle the ones you use okay
