hi all , just wondering how essential / effective is razor as a bait for cod . notice a canny few anglers always tip lug baits with . are they known to outfish other baits ? have always been pairing lug with squid / mussel / rag . and are they any good as bait on their own ? only used them a couple times last season and since i never caught owt on it just wondering if someone can shed some light on it . also it possible to collect it round the durham colliery beaches... thanks in advance.

I've tried it as a solo bait and a cocktail to worms, try using it after a good blow for best effects when it's washed up as natural food supply, I've never had major results with it apart from a few flounder on it's own

never used it till last winter it lashed with a black or 2 has found me bigger fish on some sessions few 5lb,and a 7lb then finally 10lb last winter same method with razor

Razor is a top bait I have used razor and squid together on creswell carrs with great results bigger fish every time

i usually use razor on my second rod with other baits like mussel, squid etc, never caught any big fish on it and have caught most species from N E coast on it . and having just got back from chinese market in stowell st, with a tray of 45 razor clams for less than a 5er and box of squid for 2.75 a got 2 of each well worth it i reckon

cheers lads....anyone know if it can be collected locally . e.g horden hartlepool etc#

Have a walk along Seaton beach after or during a big sea on a big tide found a few of them on the water line along with clams but you have got to beat the sea gulls, never noticed there burrows but never looked

great bait. the only bait i prefer not fresh. frozen the defrosted. seems to lash on better and kept for a few days seems to give a good wiff:)

razor clam good.
but cock clam better me thinks. most underated bait ganin

fresh live razor i swear by it after and during a blow up fished on its own 2 big clam on pennel allways catches for me ie 2o blokes on jetty 1 nite no fish cort i pulled 8 cod out first 8 casts with razor . U can dig them in hartlepool and redcar on big tides mate wont give locations on here mate every 1 be down. Have a walk down headland tomorrow low water walk from twin steps to steetly bound to pick few up in this sea just look for seagulls going mad
