No will not cast as far as a penn mag. Abu are finished in sea fishing they have been left behind in the Times by diawa penn and even shimano the old reels are bomb proof but new ones are poorly made. Only abu that will cast like a penn mag is the small reels up to a 6500 any sizes above that just won't

Hi the penn 525 mag wins hands down for both casting and fishing.
I've got a 15 year old mag elite and a mark 1 525 mag and have to say the abu is miles better for casting but hasn't got the guts for general fishing. If I had to choose just one it would be the 525 because it can handle most situations but I mostly use the abu coz I dont really fish the heavy stuff.

I cast a good way with a 6500 rocket chrome , no guts though , I have the chance of a 7000 mag , should be gutsy in the rough , but just needed info on their casting ability , I might still buy it anyways , its giro day soon .

the 7000i is a good reel but any 7000 size reel is not going to cast as far as a 6500 :hallucine: the 7000 cast far better than i though it wd smooth casting with 30lb going to try mine with thinner line and a shocker c what it will do it will cast no were near as my 525 but it wasent made for distance fishing
my magged 6500 will out cast my 525 any day of the week get the reel u need for were u are fishing rough .beach. etc u wont go wrong

I had a new 7000ct mag and found as soon as I put it under any load it just locked up (might of been a faulty one i suppose)but i heard others say the same.but as already said depends what sort of ground your fishing.

some thing i have noticed its being out the box about 5 times i washed it after every time i used it. and the crome is starting to come off the support bars hope the internal bits are not made of chocolate

can you not take it back , ?? I noticed the quality on me dads 7000 isn't the same now Garcia have merged into the company , they should stick to quality and leave the "bling" factor out of it .... I think ill just take the level wind off my 7000 synchro and save my money,and put it back on for night fishing .

dont mind a few marks going to keep it for whitby pier skinnygrove jetty deep water but cleanish ground but wd not use it on rough ground great looking reel only time will tell if it falls apart

had mainly 7000s,a couple 7000c. acouple of cts and c3sand eveen a
ABU GARCIA S E V E N most of my fishing life and all fine reels in their day but as said in another reply the bigger abu,s have been left behind by most other makes and i now favour the penn mag slidey now for all my sea fishing
