Was out on the mountain bike today. Cycled from Shotley Bridge to the A 68 Castleside. You follow the river. Fancy a shot here could see small brownies jumping at the fly at different stretches.
Tickets £6 per day from Allensford picnic site or the local post office in Shotley or at AMH Angling Annfield Plain.
Got talking to a lad fishing for them. Said these fish not like resevoir. They are much harder to catch. They are a lot more wary.
Noticed the lads trace was only about 4 feet, 2 LB breaking strain. Small fly on the end
Annual membership is about £47. Allowed to keep two fish per day.

River Derwent.

Bought a ticket for one days fishing this aftey £6.
Went down to the dam area,in from Shotley Bridge direction.
Start was a bit ominous when a farmer who lives down there said he had,nt seen fish for ages.
Set up and gave it a whirl fly fishing from the bank. Saw a couple of little ones jump out of the water and that was about it. Home for tea and i,ll go down to Allensford picnic site tonight and see what happens.
Much prefer the resevoir to river. Flies get stuck on trees and bushes. Plus resevoir is stocked.
If i don,t put nowt else on it means i,ve blanked.

LOL mick. At least yarking your flies out of trees allows you to exercise a new set of muscles to those used pendulum casting zonkers for hours on end on a resevoir. I don't have bags of experience in either type of fly fishing but love both for different reasons. I still haven't had a wild fish out of a river yet the but the day I do will be something special. On a home tied fly must be a double buzz.

Caught two.

Caught two.

These must have been the smallest trout caught on the forum by anybody. I think the name is smelt. Here is a picture of one caught at Allensford. A fish is a fish so they say. I can say i,ve caught a river trout on fly. Think its a brownie.
