River fishing in Northumberland

Hello all,

I am about to start my second season river fishing in the North East and was hoping that someone may have information on rivers to fish in the area. I am from just east of Newcastle and am currently a member of the Derwent Angling Association and had a fantastic season last year and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was wanting to look for other rivers to try as well preferably not too far from where I live as I enjoyed going for a few hours after work in the summer months and obviously the closer I am to a river the more fishing I'll get to do! :D

I was particularly interested if anyone has any info on the likes of the river Pont or Blyth. I have searched high and low on the internet but can find very little info on anything other than the river Derwent, parts of the Tyne and the Coquet and also the Tyne angling passport scheme. I realise theres the likes of the Wear etc but would prefer rivers in the Northumberland area and fairly small rather than the size of the Tyne and Wear.

I am looking for clubs that may own these waters or indeed who I would need to contact to fish areas of river. (I'm not one for randomly knocking on farms doors etc... I'm scared :o ). Any info on any of the rivers in the area would be greatly appreciated not just the ones I have specified.

Many thanks

Gary

the wear's not that big!

Fish the bit up here, the stanhope stretch is probably a bit smaller than the derwent, fiver a day, buy a ticket in the newsagents in Stanhope, plenty brownies and some canny sea trout to be had
