Had a good session today fishing last hour to low tide and the first three hours of the flood. Six codling , four size , best fish about pound and a half and a dab at bottom water. all the cod came on rag worm in the first hour of the flood. Caught a few rays (sunshine that is !!) as well. I was really not expecting to catch anything but it was better than gardening in the blistering sun. I wonder if I should buy a sun awning........

Off the beaches certainly true. however a small proportion move inshore to the kelp beds and become bright red.

For some reason the Tyne has always held a head of fish up to 2 lb throughout the summer the river is stuffed with food they just prefer the cooler deep water so long casting is essential. The fish I gutted had been eating crab and what I later identified as pipe fish... lots of them.
