River Tyne, Scotswood, 19/8/08

Haven't been fishing for almost two years so I decided to take the kids out for a few hours and opted to try the Tyne in front of B&Q at Scotswood as I often see people down there as I cross the river on the A1 on the way home, and the fact there's barriers there.

Got there about 2 hours before high tide. Not much doing except for a few eels. Couple of them were of decent size. The river doesn't seem very deep up there (funnily enough :D) and it would appear the bed is covered in decaying leaves and grass. :D

Would be good sport fishing there with a light spinning rod I think, rather than the 13ft beachcaster and 6500CT reel I had. With a good blast you can hit the other bank of the river with ease!!! ;):red:

:D:D so how far do you reckon the other side is???? I take my kids a bit further along - in front of the ambulance headquarters - its a bit wider there:D

Not sure how far it is across there. Maybe 160 yards at most. What's it like fishing down by the ambulance headquarters??

It is nice easy fishing down there - ideal for taking kids. I have been down twice and we all caught decent sized flounders both times. Plenty of parking and loads of room. If you use google earth you can estimate distance using the ruler tool at the top. Looks like its over 300 yards wide where I was so you might be able to keep your bait in the water and not on the bank at the other side :p:D

Yeah I went on Google maps earlier and reckon it's around 170yds or so opposite B&Q. I noticed on the GoFishing site it has Gateshead Quayside, opposite the Copthorne listed on there. Might try down there one day. As I said earlier, I think some light spinning rods might be more fun than the beachcaster. :red:

I have shore fished for 20 years nd i honestly believe most cannot exceed 100 yards with bait. me included!! if you can cast from scotswood to dunston you shoul enter yourself in the world championship!

i have been down there loads of times and its a lot further than i can cast"!!! and i dont often get shown up on the beach!

st peters

st peters

well this old man well looks old?we fish down the at st peters basin near the flag, this man can cast from one side and bet you he can hit far side he uses a multiplier seen him a few times getting right next to the boats, when we try we get about half that lol

Ali ,you can wor hoose on that picture ,looks like me at the window scratching my ..... head !!

Godwitharod ,where you where at does look like the other side is very close so I understand what you mean , St. Peters looks a bit more of a chuck but you can get a canny way over the water with a good cast ( not that you need to ) as you might as well fish from the other side.
