Fished the river tyne last night next to royal quays, caught two cod the 1st about two pound and the 2nd around the 3lb mark, got a massive slack liner off the 3lber then pumped it in thinking it was gone be a decent fish but turned out to be foul hooked in the belly:( we had bites every cast but jyst couldnt seem to hit them but it still turned out to be a great nights fishing.
Bait used rag, blacks, crab, mussell and squid which i got the 3lber on :red:

Cheers lads, al defo be goin back soon, its the 1st time i have fished that part of the Tyne, normally head to the riverside park, seems like a better chance for bigger fish at the royal quays and seemed a bit deeper, nt sure if im right or not like

Well done, that's a good catch. The RQ area can be shallow if you fish out of the main river.

That's a really useful map, thanks for that. How do the numbers relate to depth? If its a big 6 and a small 4 next to it does that mean 6 to 4 metres depending on the tide???

The bigger number is meters and the smaller is tenths of meters so big 6 little four means 6.4 metres. That’s the minimum depth at low water on the biggest spring tide. Dredging will change some of the readings but it gives an idea of the profile.

BestNest, the chart is from Memory Map Marine it doesn't go much further up river and down river is pretty much one dredged channel. Where did you have in mind?

Thanks Kevin excellent information. The map shows why my fishing at Brighams rarely produces a biggun as the water there is only 1.4m at low water whereas the opposite bank Smiths Dock etc is 6 to 7 metres. No wonder they get all best the fish on the north side :)

Just looked on the Memory Map site you can buy a DVD compatable with computer or mobile phones etc which has complete charts for the whole of the UK and Ireland for only £25. This sounds great for sussing out all the local fishing marks and any planned trips elsewhere think I might get one. Thanks for the heads up Kevin.
