Rod for Norway

Am close to booking for next year so am already trawling the net for tackle tips

I'll be likely packing the shore gear anyway so am already thinking about not going towards a 4 piece boat rod

What's people's thoughts/preferences?

I took my tip tornado sport and T1000 when I went

The first year I took a Penn Rampage 30/50, and although a good rod for pirking in deeper water, I found it a little too stiff and made my back ache.
Borrowed a Fladen Maximus and easily boated Cod up to 49lb and a good few Halibut with less pain.
The next year I still took the Rampage for deep pirking but also took a Fladen Maxximus 30.
I have heard good things about the Okuma Cortez rods also.
Basically I would suggest not going for too stiff a rod and save your back.

I have all three and all great rods and can handle over 70lb of fish on them (tested)
IMO its not worth taking shore gear, just the odd trace and cast using your boat set up as often don't need long chucks but in last 4 years I have shore fished once in the hope of a new pb plaice or dab but you cant beat the boat fishing and often too tired to bother shore fishing our groups have found.

Once you start getting all your lures, reels and leads together you will find how little your Kilo's go.

Have fun and first trip should give you at least new PB's for wolfish, cod, haddock, torsk and coalie...maybe a butt or two.

I used a travel 30lb okuma cortez last year with no problems landing fish to 44lb.
Also used me Fladden SC Maxximus when we took rod tubes over.

If you're taking shore rods then i would just use what you use over here.

We are looking at September with Halibut the main target species...I'll be happy with anything over 10lb on all levels in honesty

Reason for taking shore gear is in case of being stowed off by the weather and also a couple of the lads have been to where we are planning to go to before so are keen to have another bash at their marks

It's really down to taking quality gear and ideally you need two rods, a good quality 30lb class rod will be ok for shadding and a stiffer 30lb to 50lb for pirking. Top end rods previously mentioned such as Fladen Maxximus, Abu Suveran, Okuma Cortez will be fine and will handle anything from the Norway waters. It's much the same with reels, they've got to be good quality because they'll be tested and anything sub standard wont last a shift.
You'll have no problem with a decent rod, decent braid and a good quality reel with the drag set correctly. Bye the way, if you dont manage to get booked up we've got two spare places for a week in Sandland Brygge from 8th to 15th September 2017.
