Roker Beach & the Ratty Friday night

Quick report to help the guys fishing the Open on Sunday.
I fished Roker beach on Friday night at the far end near the arch into the park. I had high hopes as I saw the medium sized rollers still coming in and the wind had dropped off. Was not plain sailing though as I could hardly hold bottom. I was holding bottom for about 5 minutes before by rig wandered off up the beach trying to go round the corner. Persevered from half an hour before high tide down to an hour or so after and only got one small 6 inch Codling so at least there were fish there.
By that time the water was getting too shallow so I moved off to try the Ratty into darkness for a couple of hours and found it suprisingly quiet. I set up on the east end beside the fence casting diagonally towards the South pier to see if there were any Codling around in the outer parts of the channel.
This paid off and I had 4 sized Codling all around the 38-39 cm mark and good sport in the tide run as the tide was pushing hard down the river. Lost another one which felt about the same size before the bait ran out. Bait was blow lug on a two hook flapper with 3 blow lug on each hook. Goes through the bait quick but seemed to work as the Codling were going mad for it. Didnt see much alse coming in so maybe that was the best place to be or the fish just wanted blow blow lug.
All fish were lip hooked and lively so all went back, I was going to keep one if I could get one above the 40cm mark but couldnt manage it
Entertainment for the night was all of the fireworks being set off on the beach, sounded like Beirut !
No wind, no rain, warm, sport and entertainment, all in all a good little session :p
