Aye Aye Chaps, latest update form my day on Roker Pier, which is fast becoming my fishing mecca, but first things first...

Any regular on the pier will know the legend Ronnie, AKA Ronnie Pier, or Roker Ron - the oracle of Roker Pier, there almost daily catching up with people and fishing happenings.. well rumours are circulating he got a 8lb Pollock on the float 2 weeks ago.. and i can now show the pic to prove it! enjoy Ronnie and his specimen catch below!!! :)

The week after Ronnnie had a bad week.. upon testing his new Zziplex Powertex PTX.. he lost control of it and seen it promptly fly out his hands and into the sea! - after the help of a fellow angler.. and having to dive in and wade up to his chest he managed to get it back! but the Rod has now been christened "THE SLIPLEX!"

Onto todays happenings:

A splendid day all round for the 3 amigo`s! (myself, Chris and Mark) with 36 fish between us.. no specimens of note.. but lots of little stuff by the bucket load.

Early on the water was well down with the monster tide.. so big casts and big baits were the order of the day.. we all started with 2/0 pulley rigs, baited with rag squid or peeler in the hope of a nice plump cod as the sea was monsterous the day before... but none shown :o(... Mark got the ball rolling with a few nice whiting going for the crab:

these were the best two, but again, although big in length, thery were silly thin like last week.. riddled with lice and paracites. Mark Finsihed the day with 4 Whiting, 2 flatties and 2 coalys.. nothing over a 1.5lb. He stuck to the pulley rig all day fishing at distance with his ZTI and 7HT

Once the tide picked up coming in.. fishing at distance was becoming a total problem to get a grip.. so as i had no joy with the pulley big bait rig.. i swapped to a basic one up, one down size 2 hook rig.. with rag tiped with tiny (1cm square) bits of squid at short range of around 30 - 40 yards.. straight away the fishing picked up, with mountians of small stuff... some pics below... nothing above a 1lb for me today.. but i did get 2 lovely lobsters as night came in.. always nice to catch.. as i was winding them in i was excitied they were big mamma jamma cod giving my AFAW Big Beach a good work out.. but sadly not. Any way a few pics.. my Total for the Day 2 Whiting, 6 Coalys and 2 Flounder.

Chris was on a mission today! having double shots at alarming rate.. again all on 2 hook flappers but Size 1 hooks, Rag and squid baited, at very short range of 30 - 50 yards.. a bag total of 18 for the Chris man.. with nice size whiting being the best of the lot.. a few pics... :)

A lad up form us called Don had a few nice fish as well.. but lost the fish of the day on the surfice, what looked to be a Cod in the 4lb region.. as it turned and unhooked itself.. damn shame.. but was the only sniff of a decent Cod we had all day on the pier. - Don finished with 4 fish..

Overall a superb day for sport, if not whoppers.. On the end of the pier lots of fish were coming in (Coalys, Whiting and Flatfish.. the very very odd small cod) but nothing to write home about. We had hoped for a few 2lb plus`ers given the sea the day and night before and the cold.. but sadly they stayed out our reach. Not that im complaining at what we got today.. a good laugh, a decent haul and a enjoyable day sent us all home happy! i`ll finish with a few random pics of the day!

cheers for reading.. happy fishing... Geordie G.

Sounds like a good day was had by all. Must have spent ages putting that cracking report together. Bumped into mark (chip) a few times practicing casting & has always been willing to pass on a few tips.
