Well had the day at Roker coast today with my son and two mates. My next doors neighbours lad also came. He is 12 and never fished before.

Very disappointed to see the pier locked but understandable as waves were coming over. I was surprised as it seemed such a nice day.

Had no worm just macky lures so we went on the rat and there was nowt doing.

Saw one lad pull a nice whitey using worm and that was about it.

Nice to get out though and the lad next door knows how to spin now. Just wish we had caught a mackeral or coalie but never mind. Think the lad knows its hit and miss.

well done on getting out and trying mick there is always next time :) did you not try fishing off the end of the rat house towards the pier iv been told thats a good spot mate

Was a bit naughty with the waves coming over and having the kids and dog. (ps dog nearly went for a swim in the river-thick staffy).

If you've got the bairns with you it's sometimes worth dropping a bait straight down the side at The Ratty for little coalies. (I think  )

I went up about three weeks ago as it seemed like a canny day for a spot of spinning when I was driving up the coast road I could see the massive waves crashing over the pier, so did a u turn at roundabout and headed back to Shields! Roker pier has always confused me with the rough sea etc... as Sheilds pier dosent ever seem to be as rough and its only a couple of miles apart!

Saying that tho, the whole of Roker promenade, especially in bad weather/winter seems to be engulfed with massive, aggresive waves crashing over the walls.

well roker pier is shut for a reason ,cos of its bad waves and swells on a northeasterly or northerly, and i suggest sheilds pier will be more the less the same ,but peeps take the risk ,and coastgaurds have to go out to save peeps lifes on other piers . roker pier seems to be more secure than most ,as its locked on a bad sea
