Hi i have just ordered a rt axellerator after good advice from this forum.now i need a reel to match this beast.apart from price can any one tell me the difference between the sl3osh and the slxosha .i have read the slosh is no good for people with small hands.are there any other reels to consider.any advice please cheers

Hi mate it's nonsense about the small hands and slosh i have the rt axelerator 4-8 and use a slosh30 with no problems at all and my hands are small i use the reel in the up position.

The difference is evolution slosh20/30's then came the shv's then the shx's which has the speed shaft so its alot smoother to cast and reeling in with, but they sit high on the rod due to the way the spool and gearbox is positioned i.e thats why some people say small hands and you have problems ?? these reels are where the saltist evolved it has the speed shalft and sits lower on the rod as they have redesigned the gear box so good for people with small hands, so they say ?? but it also carries a price tag !.

Slosh 30 for rough stuff and a 525 or slosh 20 for cleaner ground. The 525 will still handle some of the rougher marks fine tho.

slosh 20 is fine for the rough stuff i used one for years never let me down, plus with lighter line on you can still bang it out a long way casting off the ground.

I use penn mag 525s for general use, but used the ABU 7000 (red ) for years for heavier work, and its a workhorse, now updated to the new ABU 7000i CT mag.

You could also look at the penn 535gs, Ideal for heavy ground & clean beaches alike - the best option is to try a few out before you buy, if any of your mates have them ask them for a chuck, get a feel for the reels before you bite the bullet & buy something, as everyone has different pro's & con's.

heavy ground rod and reel

okuma magnetex 35 non level wind, 6:1 ratio means you can skull drag fish of any size in over the rocks, suit any casting style, hold lots of 30 lb to 50 lb line, ideal with the r.t accellerator for fishing heavy ground, tested mine n.e coast and s.e scotland last 2 years(arbroath , inverbervie etc.), no probs at all, with a 2 year gaurantee for 70 quidish you cant go wrong in my opinion
