Rough ground rigs short/long hook lengths ?

On rough ground I always like to keep it short less to get snagged regarding sinkers always use a gripper

I fish hook lengths about 3 1/2 ft with the drop to the sinker about 4ft and will generally use a plain lead (preferably aquazoom) in the kelp; rockier ground I'll often use a gripper - it all depends on the bottom really.

I've not long started fishing rough ground with a gripper, but lost 1 pretty much every cast ( expected with rotten bottoms) but wondered if I'd minimise the loss with a plain lead.

Used to but found getting snagged up just as bad, now use a rig that's like a 1 hook flapper without any swivels etc on it. Basically just 70lb line with a few knots etc and a hook length and rotten bottom.

pulley for me.short though with hook length of only about 18inch 40lb mono and body about 24inch of 80lb with a 20lb rotten bottom.im using 66lb or 88lb braid on a fixed spool and don't loose much at all with this set up,fish island-crawleys king eddys ect,if I do get snagged up can normally pull out and only loose lead odd time or bend hook out

40-50lb 2 to 3.5ft hook snood, 80lb half a foot longer to lead than snood. Rotten bottom 20lb red ice. 30lb to 35lb mainline straight through. 99% of time Hook either bends out or loose a lead or both, loose lead and hook bends out if both are snagged.
