Guys,

Decided to give the South Shields pier a bash some time this week.
Having never been there before, could some one tell me the best spot for a newbie to the pier.
Also where do you park the car.
Planning on using Rag and frozen crab. Unless you can recommend different bait for that pier.

Eddie

i normally fish the tide out straight off the end of the pier, if the tides coming in im normally at the 44 mark. u can park the car at the bottom of the pier i think the car park shuts at 12.

there is numbers painted on the floor all the way up the pier the 44 mark is close to the top just abit down from the blocks

yep,

Just read a report elsewhere with pix of the pier and various marks. Fishing seaward, beach side.

Looking forward to going and meeting up.

There are some cracking marks on Shields Pier, 44 is one of my favourites and as Gary says fish the ebb off the end in darkness, you need a half decent cast to get beyond the snags otherwise it can be a it tackle hungry.

The car park at the pier head shuts at 12 though I wouldn't like to run it close I've heard tales of the b'stards locking up early to get home to their beds. That said the very first part of the car park by the coach bays has no gates but it can be difficult to get a space there. Car park is £2.40 for the whole day.

On these smaller tides I'll probably give the Walkway a bash, thinking of Thursday night.

Sounds a date.

I'll get there about 4ish. have 6 hours or so and off in plenty of time for the gates.
PM me your mobile number then I can follow you up, or share petrol. Depends where you stay. I'm 100 yds from Partons hole. Save me driving round Tyneside all evening looking for a pier.

Forgot to add the watchman locks the gate at 9pm but unless they've changed again will let you stay on. The gate is dead easy (and safe) to climb around - just pass your rods through the gate then climb around the seaward side, the pier wall / rocks are like steps and you can hang on to the bars to keep your balance. Same back up the other side. Don't try climbing round the river side as if you slip you will be in the drink, on the seaward side you are well away from the water.

it closes at 8 now mate but has been shut all weekend due to the weather, the people have been letting us stay on now aswell had abit chater with them and there all ok sometimes they have been driving up the pier in a van with 3 people in. and iv just seen that malcolm tucker thing in ur sig iv been calling u malcolm all the time :p

Everyone still up for the session on Thursday evening/night.
I can be there anytime, just let me know the times.

Cheers Eddie.

Lift available for anyone wanting to come along.

44 mark and near by i seen today and have heard recent the lads are dropping there sets of pots very close in if ya can find a gap between ya will be lucky

Been like that the last few times I've been on, pots within 30-40 yards of the wall all the way up from the old toilet block. I'll be out tomorrow night but with the crap tide I'll probably head for the Walkway, beats sitting in the house anyroad.
