im certain this was a manufacture concern , with the threads stripping inside the star drag , they uprated the star drag on newer models , someone in the know will show up with a definite answer in sure of it !!

Sounds like the dreaded drag problem with the first batch of Saltists - happened to one of mine after about 15 months from new. The drag would slip off the threads on the original shaft & strip the threads when you tried to tighten it up. It was an acknowledged problem with the original model & later corrected by Daiwa, but I took mine back to the shop where I bought it & it was sent to Daiwa for replacement & returned within the week. If you want to sort it yourself you'll need a new shaft & star-drag wheel from the tackle shop...probably not cheap to buy, but Daiwa fixed mine (along with a lot of others that were returned) for free.

Gary :)

I don't think diawa do it for free now mate I paid about 15 quid for the star drag but not sure how long it took to turn up a few days I think. Black dog tackle might be able to send you one out next day not sure
