That's probably the biggest amount of noncence av heard all year!
I know many anglers, young and old, who still use a level wind multiplier, and the do actually get canny good casts, obviously not as far as a normal multiplier can (Penn 525, etc), but still a cast of 100yds or more with some people.
I myself at the age of 10 began using a multiplier that had a levelwind, it was an Abu Garcia 7001 left hand. A canny multipler for me to start using instead of a fixed spool.

Hello mark1964, I have a saltist 40 levelwind and it's a great reel for the boat. I use saltists for my shore fishing too and rate them very highly but the models you need to look at in my opinion are the saltist 20H and saltist 30H.

hi all thanks for info. andy i guess thats what you call progress eh.i agree that if it suits and works for you then buy it.the problem is i have never useda saltist before.and bushwacker, just because you dont use a level wind doesnt mean i cant use a level wind.i guess i understand both your points, its a question weather evidance points in favour of, or against.thanks everybody for advize, i guess i will have to try before i buy.

i guess its all down to personal choice, i too use to use levelwind in the winter but sometimes you just cant get the distance to reach the fish ( more than likely my casting) but if your comfortable using it and getting the distance to reach the fish then no probs as it makes life that bit easier pulling fish in without worrying about line lay
if you can have a few shots with it before parting with your money
im looking at a few reels at the min as i might treat myself ive also looked at a few fixed spool ones for when you have one of those nightmare sessions where everything blows up in ya face
cos 9 times outta 10 its those sessions where everyone seams to be catching while your picking out those damn nests

I personally wouldn't worry about line lay when reeling in a fish, if I ever hooked a one like. Just give it a practice chuck after the event to get the line on properly.
