Sandsend car park - Yorkshire

Thinking about coming down and fish this place at some point over the weekend, can anyone give a few pointers or what rigs are best, are rotten btms used etc

when i went for a look its alot of flat slate bed mainly to the far left , still best to fish rotton bottom anyways on rock ,up to you i suppose. if you follow the track up there;s a decent shot off the cliff ... big northerlies fish best , but u never know.... i meant to fish it this winter but never got around to it...

I prefer the cliffs to the car park, if you click on the Whitby sea anglers link above and then go to marks. There's lots of info on sandsend cliffs.

What I have never understood is, how on earth do you pull a fish up those cliffs? I mean do you not have to go right to the edge to get them up?

Lol I find it hard enough hand balling a fish up shields pier never mind cliffs as high as that

you would be surprised how ya can just wind a fish straight up... firstly fish with appropriate gear for the cliffs... my set up is a axcellorator paired up with a old silstar lever drag.. not the best casting reel but excellent winching power... as it is a light boat reel really.....
i have managed to winch fish up to 6lb with this set up... of those very cliffs..but further round.. rabbitholes to be precise..... i have heard of bigger fish coming up cliffs but also of people lifting them into rocks at the base of the cliffs and retrieving them at low water...

As sage says, either winch them on the reel, or put ur rod on the rod rest and pull the line through with either urself doing it or someone else walking backwards. A lot of guys have poles with rollers on for the bigger cliffs. Sandsend cliffs are babies, you want to try Boulby, Bempton, huntcliffe, or the like. Now that is serious cliff fishing.

Think I'm just gonna give marsden area a try and give whitby a shot another day. Thanks for the info guys its appreciated.
