Most of the southern boats who actually fish for conger get results when the tide is not slack but actually flowing and anchoring and running baits towards the wreck, not bouncing big leads all over the place.

I have wreck fished for conger in April this year at slack tide up Scotland and landed 4 in no time at all best 25lb, i guess if they on the wrecks we would get them...would be a welcomed species to our waters if they did make the trip our way...the number of dogfish that are turning up our days is unreal, my mate had 2 dogfish and 1 codling from the Walkway last night and you hear of them turning up from all the piers and main marks now.

One about 8lb

One at 25lb on flowing trace half a mackerel

Next year 2013 will see sapphire anchoring over wrecks fishing for conger, divers i"v had out tell me there is big congers on the wrecks i have them marked, I will also be planning shark trips,

They probably saw lings. Hard to tell the difference for a diver who only sees the head. Plus everything looks much bigger under water.

Reading your reports i"d fished for congers 20 years ago many ports in the south had good catchers my best is 98lb, skippers then drop anchor some 100yds away from wreck so the the back of the boat is just touching the wreck at the start of the turning tide on a small tide, I"v seen video of the divers reports taken from the wrecks i droped them on to, From 30mts to 86mts taken this year and would say they around 20lb to 100lb videos of these congers going past the divers same size as the diver caught on cam, congers are been caught on the gound well they hunting for food at this time of the year bigger congers wont leave the wreck only when they hunting on the outside of the wreck, The prob"lm up here is nobody will anchor up over the wrecks, and you wont catch conger driffing over wrecks,

Well give it a try you never know may get one or two but its a long shot in my opinion, with 100s of lines in the water with nice juicy mackerel baits 7 days a week for 6 months of the year and only 1 to be landed says it all in my book....i have had them up Scotland on the drift over sand and wrecks so you can catch them with out even targeting them if they are "there", they are a lazy fish but you dont get 100lb by sitting not chasing the odd meal that goes past.

Best of luck anyway.
