All these reports of no fish what you doing wrong lads, I had 6 rods out on Thursday 14th march they took cod 12 altogether some good ones to fishing in 25ft just behind the rollers, mussle and crab was the bait,

There are fish around, of course.

The problem is that they are very hard to catch for some reasons.

One problem is the very poor visibilty. The record rain of last year means that tons of mud from the river covered the seabed from Tyne to Tees and every swell stirs it up.
Second problem is that the cod spawn and move around a lot and further out to deeper water, which makes uptiding more difficult.

I expect that the fertile mud will also lead to a spring algae blossom, which produces this awful green water in April, which again makes shad fishing hard and boats have to go out far.

Lets hope the arrival of the mackies sets the season off.
