Hi lads never posted for quite a while, i was just browsing when i came across wallsendo's drunken rant. The lad may have been drunk, but he did make a valid point about peoples contributions to this site. So from someone who's conscience has been pricked - here goes.

When conditions are flat and fish are thin on the ground and your scratching for bites what sort of rig or rigs would you use and what is your favourite. Mine is a three hook flapper 10-12in snoods size 1 kamasan aberdeens rolling or fixed depending on tidal state. Served me well in the past.

well i dont scratch much so when the sea is flat i will normally fish the kelpy ground with 1 4,5 or 6/0 hook, rotten bottom set up flapper rig with a big bait:)

cheers

when flat i prefer the rough ground {rocks),pennel rig, rotton bottom, and a good bait up on a 3/0 to 4/0,if only small bites i use a two hook flapper and worm squid baits on a 2/0 to 3/0
if rough seas on the pier and with a pennel rig and a big bait

When the sea is flat I usually just head for one of the smaller, shallow estuary/harbour mouths and chase flatties on light gear.

Scratching gives you the opportunity to fish VERY light tackle in some situations.

Use a 2-5 ounce rated rod, light multiplier, and nothing heavier than 15lb line, and you can get great sport from even fairly small fish.

Stick to a 2 or 3 hook flapper and size 1 or smaller hooks with small baits and just enjoy it !

I like to keep the baits moving slowly, so give the rod a twitch every couple of minutes...this seems to encourage more takes.

It's a great way to de-stress yourself as well, a really relaxing way to fish.

in spring or summer if i fish for bass i sometimes take a light rod and put a big bait out on one rod and scratch about close in with a trace of 20lb body and 15lb or less hooklengths, maybe size 2 or 4 hooks, quarter crab baits and fish very close in,it is surprising what turns up sometimes totally outfishing the big rod,and definitely more sporting.

Various wishbone rigs, long, short, one hook up one see saw wishbone down good for small fish, a very versitile rig.allaways ring the changes with bait, do not use the same size or type of bait on each hook. Harbour rag known as maddies can be a killer for flounder. The balance of tackle should be right according to location , weather, tide and often in the summer clarity of water pherhaps snoods of fluro carbon.
