sea rod building

i know alot of people that build there own fly rods to there own spec. was wondering if anyone actually buys blanks for sea rods and sets up the grips, guides etc themselves. what is the costing like? iv got plenty space in the garage wouldn't mind something to keep me busy and plus i can use them after......(if they don't fall apart!)
