testing the water here.

I've been asked to put a proposal together for a website by a large marine safety company

currently they service mainly offshore industry and coded/commercial sector

their idea is to encourage people to keep track of their safety equipment - pyros, liferafts, beacons, jackets etc

free service, folks can register on the site and create their personal inventory of all the kit they've got on board that is date critical, so the system can send them an email 2 or 3 months ahead of the expiry date of their pyros, raft service date, jacket service dates etc etc

would that be something that would appeal to the leisure market? Do you think its a good idea?

I'm not gonna turn the work away if they press the button on it, but am curious to see what the uptake/response might be

I can see the benefits to this and it sounds a good idea to me. Expiry dates of safety equipment, Warranties expiry on kit, launch/marina fees due, insurances etc. not forgetting Birthdays of family!

I was reading on another forum about a service for pleasure boats (can't remember which port) similar to the AA / RAC. You pay a yearly fee and if you break down they blast out in a 10M rib, if they can't get you started they tow you in. When I read the first line of your post I thought / hoped that's what you were gonna say, I think it's a brilliant idea, piece of mind for boat owners and probably a good business idea for someone with the the right skills / resources.
