Shads

Whats the best way to fish with shads got a couple, i tend to stick to the usual daylights, hokis, muppets, rippers.

I was out on the Mistress on Friday and was using 4" shads on a 6 foot flowing trace,ended up with the sweep money for heaviest cod and sweep for most cod. I only used 4" power storm shads and never lost any gear all day.

thats the way i use shads aswell with a 6 foot trace,its never let me down! the shads seem to be doing the business at the minute!

After only one trip using shads I've gone from doubter to convert , the lads reckon a four foot trace works better due to less tangles ,keep the lead on a short clip and either wind up slowly and slowly release back to bottom or as I did just raise the rod and drop it slowly , the shads swim great if you watch them on the surface.

Same as the flowing trace attach weight with a 4-6ft trace longer trace seems to work great at the minute
after the initial drop bounce along the bottom a few times then wind up bowt 8-9 times slowly and slowly release back down repeat this process as you would with a baited trace and hopefully should cacth you some cracking fish

If you get a bite just keep winding slowly, it's hard not to strike at first.

I think the shads catch the bigger fish. Its sometimes not as productive as baited hockeyes but when you get a tug you can almost bet its a nice fish.

ps i use a metal boom but am going to review this as i had a few tangles last time out. They reckon the simpler the set up the better so i might just attach the shad to a length of line and clip onto sinker.

I was out of Craster last week and caught 3 decent sized Cod on shad on a 3ft trace and metal boom. Also had an assist hook attached tipped with 1/4 to 1/2 a squid depending on the size. Just ordered some more Shads in different colours. Green was the colour of the day last week.
