Just Bert and myself on saturday morning, Kyle the ZooKeeper (likes his Lyins
) missed out.
As said on Norm's catch report we didn't take any bait so while the Slinky crew were busy poaching on OUR cod wreck
we steamed out further afield after collecting our Brekkie - Thanks yet again Norman
Found the mackeral hard to come by at first but once we had a fair few it was time for big baits & big hooks. We bagged a few ling and the odd cod but the whitings were becoming a pain stripping the baits and one or two even taking 10/0 hooks
. Bert decided we should change location and stuck a huge flapper on his hook to try & avoid the whitings - great decision!!! First drift on the next wreck his rod was doubled over before my gear had even hit the bottom. After a good scrap on the light rod he won in the Frasers comp this beauty landed in the net.
Well done mate!!!! cracking 18lb Ling.
Had a few more drifts and landed a couple more before heading in towards a couple of 3 mile wrecks, I'd had a good go with pirks and only managed one codling and lots of losses, so Bert decided to show me how to do it, first drift, bang!!! canny cod, second drift bang canny cod... I'd just netted the second and picked my rod up only to feel a good nod
nod....woohhoo....really thought I had a lunker on, I was turning the reel handle but the spool was either stationary or spinning the rang way
after lots of puffing, panting and wimpering I finally got it to the surface, turned out to be a 12lb8oz cod hooked in the side. Oh well, not the monster I thought was coming up but still a canny fish.
Crackin morning as ever - Cheers Bert!!!
