decided to fish sharply with Paul today, I got there around 11 ish , paid for a 3 fish ticket as usual, stayed in the lodge til approx. 12.30 then decided to fish, up onto the Cuthbert ( kill only lake ), nymph on the point, black buzzer 1st dropper, olive buzzer on the top dropper, few casts and nothing to show, so decided to put my flies right into the margins slow figure of 8, bang fish on, a nice rainbow around 3lb, next cast almost identical, another rainbow just over 3lb.
by this time the sun was really out and scorching hot with not even a slight breeze, I decided on the doxford, fishing the dam wall I managed another 2, both blues and returned alive and well, just as I was about to go to the hangmans I noticed paul arriving, anyhow, up on the hangmans and I managed another 2 to the net, 1 bow and 1 blue.
Went to the lodge for a coffee, spent about an hour there, hoping the sun would go in or at least get a breeze. So off me and paul go, to the hangmans 20-30 mins and nothing, thought I would chance my arm on the noose, 1 fish on and straight back off, paul came down and netted 1, then we moved to the lodge again, far too hot, tabs, coffee, chat then back to the albert, fish rising all over now, I missed 1 and lost 2, think paul lost 1 there, trying to match the hatch was fairly easy but they would not take the flies, so we tried emergers, beetles and small drys, nothing, so decided I would go on the hangmans, spent about 25 mins then had a nice bluey in the net, then another bluey. that was it for me, went down where paul was fishing on the doxy, he had had 2 and lost quite a few and also missed a few, we packed up and left, final catches I think was 8 to me, and 3 or 4 to paul. All in all a very very hard days fishing
