i don't understand why people on this forum aiways seem to knock mackerel fishing, i really enjoy it and have done since i was a young kid, i use a frehwater rod, 8lbs line, a small ancient diawa fixed spool, and toby spinners and when you hook one using light gear you get pound for pound the best fight of any fish in the north sea, great sport and yes i do take a few home for the pot but the vast majority are returned, i also know there are a few, lets say, undesirables who go [macki bashing] but mostly they don,t bother anyone

There's a certain crowd it seems to draw, but i think a lot of it is just banter

Nothing wrong with makki bashing just brings out that minority of scruffy ****s that leave their mess all over for others to sort out, having said that the same lot are at it during the winter too!!!

Couldn't agree more i hate piers except for when the mackerels in, normally its the pier ends that attract the idiots on Blyth you can get just as many fish before the end if not more when it comes to middle of the season and the foat starts to fish better than spinners or day lights. As for the rubbish i've fished quite a few sea league matches over the years on South Shields pier in March/April long before the mackerel arrive, not only have i seen old line and rubbish left but the place has stank of stale p*ss
