Shields beach, Monday 14/04/14

Saw the forecast for a decent swell tonight so popped down shields beach with a mate and fished 2down, 1up. Nice surf on, even a couple of surfers out, so I was hopeful for something special..didn't happen though, but had plenty of action all night with flounders, coleys and rockling, all on rag worm. I had another rod out with sandeel, but that wasn't touched.

Nice day to be out Andy. I wouldnt personally bother using sandeel at the minute mate, not a great deal will take it... If you want a fish bait stick with maccy. Flatties, bass etc will all take it as it has a much better oil content/smell than the eel. Eel seems to work best in summer when there are lots in the water for the bigger fish to feed on in my opinion.

I surf down there and I'm probs out later so don't stick a hook into me!

I was on the pier, by my self, couldnt believe no one else down
7-9:30pm
fished edge of the blocks
beachcaster out with bait and gave the spin and lrf rods a go
loads of action on the bait, dabs, coalies, small codling and weavers
not a touch on the lrf or spinners/plastics
saw your lights when i was coming back off the pier
the way the surf was I thought you would have been in with a chance of some silver

me too! I actually said to my mate - if I dont get a bass in this im qiving up fishing! (i didnt get one, but dont think ill quit just yet!)

we couldnt see any lights at all on the pier - couldnt believe it too, there was loads of fish in the water.
