Shields pier, 1/9/08

Bought the son (who's 12) his first rod this morning so he wanted to try it out, it's a 10ft beachcaster, nowt fancy, but it'll do him for starting off. Fished just before the first gate. He caught a Whiting on his second catch, only about half a pound, but he was chuffed to bits.

Then he noticed how many charvers and divvies were coming back up the pier carrying bags full of mackeral, at which point I think he decided that bait fishing was a waste of time and wanted to use spinners, except I didn't have any in my box.

After that he got a couple of stonking knocks, but nothing to show for it. Me......I didn't even get a bite!!

Doesn't matter if you didn't get a bite, its all about the bairns when you take them.

bet you will get pesterd to take him all the time now lol my son normaly out fishes me when I can get him to go 18 and found booze n girls are more fun than standing on a pier with his dad welldone both of you

Took him back down today, bought him a couple of spinners as he "only wanted to catch a mackerel!" He didn't catch anything on it like, but at least he tried.

Much doing on the pier today then? was thinking of hitting it later on this morning for a few hours

There was a few Mackerel been caught down towards the end of it, not sure if there was much else being caught mind.

Gave it a miss due to the rain, looks liek boat fishing this weekend going to be off also, 25mph east winds
