hi thinking of heading up 2 shieldspier tommorow but only been once before will it be open with the sea been on or does tynemouth break it off will be taking the small rod down with two hook 1/0s on and the big rod for big baits where would be best for a chance of a coddling and flatts etc and help would be great.

Aye Davey, it should be open tomorrow,take a rod rest in case it's closed and you can fish anywhere before the first gate.

hi davey u will be fishing the tide up. so i would say go just past the first gate
next to the start ov the rubbe in the harbour side. u can fish both sides. r u could go further up and fish the post which is in the harbour side its a wooden rail way sleeper that sticks up the side it is rough and u will lose gear
but you have a good chance ov cod and coalies. straight opposite into the seaward side u have a chance ov cod, coalies, flats, and the odd bass.

got to shields pier bout 1.30 pm, gates on pier closed today due to waves comlng over harbour side between rubble (29 mark ) to about ( 38 mark ) and the blocks on sea side, so we stopped and fished the first gate area and only caught tiny codlling ,coli and 3 beard rockling we left about 7pm , there were people fishing end, 44 mark and rail end and all came off with the same story only tiny fish getting caught, some had been down since 7.30 am and seen nowt of size taken. i have got a club match the morra and and with only tiny stuff about i got no idea where to fish, a lad from sunderland came along for a walk and said there was a few cod taken from rathouse too 2lb but was was chocka

waco i fish the little pier at the rathouse from 9-1 today and u couldnt move aong the back ov building mate must have been 30 or 40 fishing. their were loads under size.
