Shimano TLD 15 - Bearings????

My trusty TLD15 has started to sound a bit dodgy, it sounds fine when letting out line in free spool but when reeling in it just don't sound right. The best way i can describe the noise is like a wurring sound, I'm assuming it needs new bearings would that be right?? and if so, any ideas where to get them.

Cheers! :)

Just as an update for anyone interested, I contacted both parties Mark kindly passed on, the Shimano service site said they generally charge £10 labour for a service, plus postage back, plus any parts required (the bearings are £8 each I think they said) but said they would call with a definate price before going ahead. Seemed like a good service but I decided to have a go myself and paid £9 at the other site for a pair of spool bearings. Just looked at the schematic and it looks like there are actually 4 bearings in there :(.

Keith,

There is no need to strip the spool apart as it only contains the drag washers. So if you have no problem with the grag leave it alone as they are only available from a service centre.

The bearings are available from BSL Brammer or any other goodbearing supplier. There is a code number on the side that identifies them and from memory the tld15 bearings are common...just make sure you get a stainless steel version. Take the old ones out and take them with you if you cant get a number from them.

The hard part can be getting the drag in sync with the re assembled spool. Back off the preset knob fully and also the lever itself. That usually helps.

As an alternative to replacing the bearing you can get excellent results using an electrical contact cleaner aerosol to clean out the bearings
De.Solv.It Electrical Contact Cleaner - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys
and re oil them with the tube of oil that came with it. Its good stuff to clean the parts before re assembly as well.

I you get struck send me a pm.

Cheers
Dave

waiting for bearings to arrive, I've gone as far as removing main drive shaft, but haven't removed the cooling shield - too scared lol, I'd hate to have to use one of my other two for fishing.

I don't even have that luxury...mines not even playing up, but I don't fancy picking it up next year to find it's seized up

on a seperate note...have you noticed the varnish on your Fladen starting to crack and peel?

Think mines a different model to yours but aint noticed owt.

Just fully stripped the TLD down, wasn't too bad. The shaft the handle connects to was crudded up and was difficult to remove, runs nice & freely now cleaned. The big bearing in that handle side plate was seized but managed to free it with a good blast of carb cleaner. Will probs have to get a new one them eventually. 2 new spool bearings arrived but one didn't fit, they looked fine anyway.

try force 7 bearings on team valley, get all my bearings there at about third the price, take the old ones with you as they measure them
