hi all. can anyone help me by advising me the main difference between the two type on sinkers and when would be the best conditions to use a particular type . thanks
Long tail sinkers hold better in heavy seas because they lie flat on the sea bed better than a normal bullet shape sinker enabling the wires to bite into the sand/mud on the sea bed also a couple of tips get yourself some small elastic bands to tie to one of wires and wrap around base of sinker over wires to prevent the wires breaking out but on retrieve wires spring out and you don't lose elastic band. Also when using bullet type sinkers bend the end 10mm of wire up in the direction of sinker eye this helps too.
Also,a well set up long tail 5oz lead will hold just as well as a normal 8oz in a big sea or strong tide.
To get even better grip, use thicker wire or put plastic tubing over the wires.
Thats what the tubing is for that comes with a Gemini mould kit.
I,v held bottom loads of times with these in some big seas when lads using heavier leads were getting washed out.
