hi. was just about to order some more terminal tackle from moonfleet and get it posted out. noticed they don't sell crimps on their website and instead sell silicone tubing. i understand how to use this but is it strong enough to use as the stop above an impact shield or am i better of sticking to normal crimps for this job

tbh id prefer to stick with what i know but they dont seem to sell the normal crimps

cheers

Not keen on Silicone Tubing, Power Gum etc as stops on Rigs. Find Crimps far quicker and if applied carefully can be moved if required. Veals Copper Crimps are really good.

Allway's use crimps myself, only use stops etc as a bait stop with sequins, use veals copper crimps can't fault them:)some say crimps damage the rig body, never ever had any probs myself:cool:

pro and cons with both, crimps do weaken the line if crimped too strong but totally ineffective if not crimped hard enough, that goes for any material the crimp is made of, copper to stainless, tronix rubber stops are designed as bait stops but are great for rigs too, silicone tubing is more for people wanting fully adjustable rigs, the silicone stops can be fitted about 10mm apart so when a fish takes the first stop will give but as it slides along it meets the second stop and the pressure increases on the hook and then the third, fourth and fifth (depending what your fishing for depends on number of silicone stops) act as shock absorbers and increase the pressure each time sinking the hook firmer into the fish and not just dropping out, the hook up rate is better again with the silicone sliders but some people think they are too much work.
you only get out what you put in to it. I hope this helps with some peoples outlook on silicone sliders, by the way we do sell crimps but must not have added them on our website, I will correct that too.

Moonfleet had some adjustable crimps in stock when I went a couple of month back, think they were made by Breakaway? I've found them absoloutely spot on and no line damage. Cheap as chips aswell mate... just pop into the shop. Never used the silicone but the crimps are so easy to use I tend to stick with them....

There is another alternative to crimps that has all the benefits of crimping but can also be moved. The system is a breakaway product called "coil crimps"

Coil Crimps

They are small spiral wound coils of stainless steel which you wrap the line into forming a very strong friction based grip. There is no chance of pinching the line or them slipping in use. I have used them myself for going on 15 years. They do take a little more time when you are making up rigs but IMHO it is time well spent.

this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ... I've been fast on the bottom by the hook not the lead , and pulled the rod to crack off , the crimps have slid down the main trace body and still not damaged the line . folks must use mole grips to clamp them down .

I love the simplicity of silicone tubing it means if you snap hook snood there's no problem with getting exact same length as the tubing moves

in all my time of fishing ive never once had a the line snap from using a crimp

only happened to me twice, time consuming i know but three stop knots using 12 lb mono about 8 turns each one .each stop knot can be moved individualy but the three stop knots adjacent to each other wont budge.

Power gum stopknots do me,used to use crimps but was paranoid about line damage.have used this method for years now,no problems.swivel pulls to bottom of rig when fish hooked and keeps sinker clear of bottom.sounds the same as other methods mentioned.same as the other lads i like to stick with what i know and trust
