thinking of going to silloth to try and find some peeler crab , any help on where to go, and how you to collect them ? also what is the best kit to wear ? any help would be a god send cheers

What I heard was just to turn stones over and there should be loads, never been myself.

The rocks are in pools you can't turn them you just got to get your arm under the crab are buried under them, your going to get wet most folk wear wet or dry suits

A bit more to it than that like.. Ha.

Definately agree with that
In an ideal world arms need to be 10 ft long then you won't get wet,
Hands made of steel so they don't get ripped apart from barnacles etc.
It's hard going now as soon as they start peeling it gets hammered & people take everything.
The locals are p***ed off & have taken to running a key down the side of your car, or slashing tyres so either take someone (ideally a Rottweiler) & leave beside the car
Or as I do get number plates made up locally with silloth or Carlisle on the bottom of the plate. They just don't like us Geordies or mackems

thanks for the advice lads, i will bear that in mind when i go this summer, might put my ex in the car , she will scare the **** out of the locals.

Sorry lads, I was just passing on what I was told by a lad I got a load of frozen crab off. I should have known it couldn't be as easy as he said mind.

It was possible back 20 years ago to get 300 per tide but was hard going & cold hands were ripped to bits from rough & sharp edges on the rocks & sometimes went a bit septic & swollen for couple of days after,
You've got to get there early in the peeler season
Too early & you only get the odd crab but if you wait too long it's been hammered & usually find by time you pay fuel costs & the amount of crab you get it's often cheaper to visit your local tackle shop,
Still too early it's usually 2nd week in May

Apparently there are signs up saying you can only take 20 per tide this year. There were bailiffs last year telling people that this would be happening.

Should happen to be honest when you see the amount of crab each person used to come away with & sometimes there was at least 50 people collecting
It was prob 10000+ crab per day
Sounds unbelievable but 300crab x 50 people 15000
& that will have a serious effect on crab population & fish feeding specifically on crab eg smoothies
Makes you wonder!!
