silloth help

Cos it's been hammered me & my mate used to get that amount & it was a place you told no one about now everyone knows it & people come from Kent & Devon to load up & sell for 90p a crab,
The environmental agency can put a preservation order on anything if they think there is an effect on population especially something like crabs which is near the bottom of the food chain & will have issues with anything that feeds off them. Otters which are being introduced on the solway coast heron, & other birds, & fish

I dont think 50 people get 300 crab a tide no were near lol

They were getting 200 easily late last year 2nd peeling season with the good warm weather we had & most ppl were doing 2tides sometimes even long weekends it only takes 1 person to mention peeler crab in silloth then it's like a football match up in Mowbray
I've seen first hand getting 30 crabs from under 1 rock then as tide comes in & back out you can get the same amount from the same rock
I'd be happy with 200 for the season

And this is the reason that there's not many left:( i have seen it when there was 50 or more pulling the crab castle's apart not only taking as many crab as possible but destroying the environment:mad: no wonder the locals get ****ed off not only spoiling it for themselves but also for the future generation:confused: only one way to describe it GREED

Definately
In considering just buying crab
Cheaper than gettin damage to car cheaper than fuel travelling costs
Only downside is your encouraging people raiding the crab hotspots

I remember reading somewhere that Carlisle University have monitored the crab population and over a 10 year period there was a 90% reduction.

Without sounding like an old bloke something needs to be done to control the amount ppl take, how they would do it is another story.
1 example.............. Someone on eBay from Herne bay was selling 200 live crab for £120
He had more than 10 available & that's 1 person.
In Devon the English heritage owned a stretch of land with the only access to the beach/estuary they manned it charging £1 to get through the gate with a 30 pep person limit.
Now the smoothhound are caught in huge numbers & arrive when the crab start to peel! Coincidence ???

from the shore, your governed by law for so much,

1 lobster, size.
1 welk.

there's even rumour's that they may put a limit on the amount of willick's we take....!

so why not protect the crab's......?

Your right Another example is of a couple of small beaches that i no of on this side of the coast you could go and dig 100 worm well enough for a week's fishing until the BBB's turned up dug them out in no time the three Bs are the booze-backey-bets brigade:rolleyes: they are the ones that will spoil it for everyone

Either way you can't win, most of us are sensible enough to not damage future stocks but the majority of people just get carried away with the excitement of getting so many then greed sets in
& if someone collects 100 worm or crab then everyone has the right to do the same
It's a no win situation very soon everyone will suffer when there's nothing left then the tackle shops know there onto a winner when no one can collect enough to last the season so decide £2 £3 or whatever is the price
& with the miles & miles of coastline in the uk it would cost thousands of hours & wages to police such a thing as controlling the collections
Rant over for me on this one I'm starting to turn into victor meldrew
