Silloth Prom Thorny 10/06/14

Had a trip over to Silloth this afternoon. When I got to the town it looked like a foreign country with the sun out.

I got to the prom for 5.15pm but high tide wasn't until 10.15pm and there wasn't enough water over the rocks and the platforms at the bottom, so had to wait a couple of hours and first cast was at 7.15pm.

There was a strong SW wind and the tide was racing, so the tip was moving all the time, but on my 3rd or 4th cast I noticed there was a few stronger pulls on it. When I first lifted into it I thought there was a fish on, but then it felt like I'd got snagged, so I tried to pull through the snag and I realised it was moving. After what felt like a few minutes of epic looking hauling, I saw the ray come up to the surface :D Don't know what weight it was but I've now realised that these rays are heavier than they look.

I quickly got another bait in the water hoping to get more, but nothing happened. I fished until half 11, hoping I might at least get dogfish when it was dark, but the baits were coming back untouched, so packed up and left at midnight. Only one fish, but well pleased with it :D.

That's excellent Andy well done mate. I've never caught a thorny before (have targeted them a couple of times) so I'm well jealous :) Good on ya mate.
