With KeithB and Steve as crew today .................... :)

Well, since I was lucky enough to get tickets for NUFC v Wigan today we had to have a shortened fishing trip to allow me to get home in time for the compulsary (says the wife) shower before heading off to SJP.

So with this in mind we set off at 5.30 am (yup I`ve found there are two 5.30`s in the day)

Again yet Again it was windy, oh so windy (when will we ever see a flat sea again?), which made the drift difficult, however my stirling crew found out in a very short time that the fish in the particular spot we were fishing were feeding with their eyes closed and swimming as fast as we were drifting, therefore my lures were providing very litte in the catch rates compared with Keith and Steves BIG bait tactics.
Fish after fish seemed to come aboard with not a lure in sight, LOL I was totally chilled today looking forward to the match so I simply let the crew do the work and catch catch catch they did.
Tried a few 3 mile wrecks after a while but when we got there the wind was high and the sea rough with the drift just too fast to cope with so returned to bait fish at the original magic spot.
Great Day (or al least morning) out with a dozen or so codling to about 5lb, all good fighting fish similar to those in the pics.
Again we could have been saving points for a species comp with codling pouting (scotchies),Gurnard, whiting, mackerel all falling to a variety of mixed baits and lures.

king of the day was Keith who must have boated 75% of the catch, dunce of the day was me LOL just chilling out working as skipper and dreaming of a Michael Owen headed goal in the last 5 mins to gain 3 points ............. as if LOL :)

ps Thanks for the tipple keith lol I`ll try it tonight :)

Just a taster of todays catch ............. well done Steve and Keith, apologies for the shortened day....... :) :0) :)

ps notice the special bait keith uses its made up of ^%&&(&^%$£ :)

Cheers Norman,

"dunce of the day" - Don't be silly! That's a big sea and there was only one bloke putting us over the fish is testing conditions!

As for the bait "^%&&(&^%$£ " - only available on big tides :D and regardless of what our lass says - size matters! :D

My "lucky fishing jumper" is looking a bit thread bare now :(

Thanks again lads crackin morning!

ps

Sorry again about the 11lber Steve, I only YANKED ya hook trace gently :(

Cheers Norman you did well putting us on the fish in trying conditions as Keith mentioned .
Great bait Keith ,Mussell was the winner but if only we'd had Peeler ..... ;)
Anyway Keith ,how long you been boat fishing to do that to my fish ,next time make sure you get your fingers right in the gill rakers and hurt yourself as pennance :D :D .
Funnily enough the better fish I caught and got off when we returned to the same spot felt very similar  .

Anyway great day and canny craic as usual ,followed by canny footy results. ;)

:) ;) :)

well, didn`t mention cos I couldn`t do it without laughing and maybe not giving the right impression but ................. well .... there again here goes :)

you may or may not know but we`re waiting with baited breath for steve to boat a doubler..... he`s been close 9.5 lbd and just last week a 9 lbd but the elusive double still thwarts him ....... lol :) today hahaha :)

Steve dug into what was obviously a cracking fish, by the way the rod bent it was fighting like billy-oh (at the same time I was boating steves favourite scotchies double headed but he didn`t even niotice)
As it reached the surface I remember keith saying something like " Thats it mate it looks like it`ll be the doubler"
Quick open the back door and dont loose it ...............
"I`ll get it" says keith ............. well i`m sure you can now see what happens next as keith attempts to bring the fish aboard ........... maybe the word splash comes to mind :) :) :)
followed by (silly :) ) comments of " hold on it may float back up" LOL :) :) :) oh yeah keith, and ameobi will score a goal ................

Never mind Steve it may have been only 9.9 lbds ...........
There`s always next time .............. :)

Laughing my head off about it this afternoon at home ,well to be honest I'd sooner have a fight like that and not land a fish than pull up a doubler which just gives in and feels like a soggy blanket on the way up .

It's just a matter of time ,but what an experience :o :D

Excellent lads...nice one;) :D

half five start eh? f*** a duck I was still comatose from the previous night at that time....:o

Still, it sounds like the Toon match was a good 'un for you Norman.

I watched the mackem game on setanta - good job i didn't pay to watch it though

Guys interesting to see bait being used rather than lures etc.
Is it a seasonal thing to use real bait or is it a case of being prepared.
I cannot make out what the bait is but would a bag of rag and squid do the job.

Cheers Mick.

(Rang John-Maggie May all booked up on Tues so i,ll try out the new reel on the beach).

Mick, the bait is a cocktail of ragworm, squid, mussell & lugworm.

As Steve says the mussell seemed to be top bait, I think we would of caught a lot more if we'd had some crab.
