Not a catch report as there's not really anything much to report other than a few fish but all the wrong kind ....

however, whilst fishing alongside the lads on Rainbow Star I caught a slight glimpse out the corner of my eye of what I took to be a dolphin break surface , blow air and dive about 50 yds or so from the boats, we all waited a moment then all was revealed, not a dolphin, far too big ...... but what I now know to be a minke whale.
(I know now after a little research here ..... http://www.whaledolphintrust.co.uk/species_details.asp?inst=18&species_id=121 )
It was about somewhere around the 25+ foot I guess looking at slinky kate as being 21 ft long.
I grabbed the camera with anticipation and it did break surface again but a little further away. It seemed like forever as the head surfaced then dived before the rest of the body followed and I waited to catch and snap a glimpse of the dorsal fin ... for recognition purposes.
I understand now after looking at the site above why it seemed so long before the dorsal fin appeared, this is because it is about two thirds of the way down the body (almost at the tail). At least this confirms our recognition..........

apologies for the picture quality but it was a bit away and only one chance

Rainbow Star

The Minke Whale ...

Apart from the lack of fish it was a beautiful day out in the best sea and sunshine I've seen in a while

cheers

Havnt a clue haha not a single cod or ling between the 3 of us in 11 hoyrs out we had plenty mackerel but were scarce til about 4 oclock then we filled our bags with fresh

Great pic of the whale Norman, I've seen them a few times but never managed a picture , they always seem to be on a mission to get somewhere
I had a great day out today , I brimmed the tank with the intention of visiting every wreck in the North Sea till I found some fish and bagged up on the first wreck I stopped at , a box of nice cod and a 10 lb pollock :D.
I've still got virtually a full tank for the next time  :D
