does anybody know what the crack is with launching boats from the slipway next to the groyne at south shields? ive heard it is free, also would my escort estate do the job or would it be a case of 3/4 blokes handballing it in and out?
any advice/feedback appreciated.

wat your best off doing is stopping the boat half way down the slip way put some chockes under the boat unhock it from your tow bar then a bit of rope about 4 miter long hock that on your towbar then round the bit u pull up on the boats traller 2 get it off your car then take the tenson on the rope then remove the chockes then steadley go back dad dose it all the time its spot on m8 hope u get wat a mean

The slipway is not free. You need to apply for a permit from South Shields town hall. It costs around £40 and includes car parking as well and they insist you have third party insurance.

i also had to pay £20.00 for a card to lock or unlock the enterance gate

while other parks up hope this helps mate

Dave, Mike is right you do need a permit from the council, also the insurance. the permit comes as a swipe card to lift the barrier. If you get one, dont wait till the weekend with your boat hitched on the back of your car . Go straight down and make sure the card has been programmed to lift the barrier, and yes it's open all year.:)

spot on thanks again lads, ive already got insurance so thats sorted. is there any state of the tide which is not advisable to launch as i know other places can be dodgy at certain states of certain tides??

Dave, low tide can be a bit dodgy as the slip is covered in moss/seaweed. as penn525magextra sugests, using a rope would help at this stage.

During the summer the water is clear of floating crap. During the winter it does not get cleaned and can be full of floating logs / branches
