Fished Smiths docks from 11pm till 8am and got pounded by small whiting, 8-12". Lead wasnt even hitting the bottom before my rod was tapping away in my hands. This continued all through the last half of the ebb up to a couple of hours before high water. Ended up with 23 all in, all returned alive apart from 3 which were very deeply hooked. Only used mackerel as bait.

On my return home the kids twisted my arm to take them down the beach with their rods, who am i to say no ;)
Kidds found a couple of softies so clambered over the rocks and had a chuck with them. 2 mins later and the rods tapping away in my hand, reels in and this is what i had lol,

Quite happy tho as i have never caught a rockling by rod and line and its another to add to my list.
All small stuff but a fun time and the weather was brill :)

Lol, I forgot about my new line on my last trip and had a massive birdy lol.

The whiting can be a laugh on a lighter rod, I normally double up a big bait rod with a smaller lighter estury rod with a couple of hooks..... the maccy works a treat this time of the year!

If there is 1 thing i have mastered in my fishing m8, it's the art of birdy-reversal ;)

I used a cheap 4-6oz 13ft,er with a very light tip, 2 hook flapper, 4oz lead and every now and again it would make you think it was something a little better, untill i pulled 2 10" whities, Again
