Hi lads.

A question for you's lads on the north side. Is it possible to fish smiths docks during the day now?

I've noticed that most if not all the machinery has gone so less security... a think. Fishing has been good there and a fancy an all night session there sometime, get the ferry over in the afternoon and then back again in the morning.

Any info would be canny. :)

Fished there on Sat from 10am till about 2.30pm, between 3 of us, we took about 30 - 35 fish in total, mostly undersize whiting and codling with a couple of decent flounders and a cany coalie thrown in.
Windy as hell though that day! - wrap up well cos there's no protection from the elements there.

I don't know if you can get through the fence at the ferry landing, but there was lads fishing that end on sat, so might be worth a go. But we always go in at the other end, because theres a bit of fence bent double, easy to get over. but its a long long walk from the ferry landing.

Security guy doesnt bother you, well he's never bothered us anyway, and I was there 3 times fishing thru the day in the last 2 weeks.

Hi Andy, none of the lads I know that fish there have never fished during the day, since work started there.
One bit of advice take your wellies its thick muddy clay that sticks to your shoes.;)

Hi Andy, fished Smiths Saturday, Ferry landing end. You can get through the fence near the scrap yard in the industrial estate, fence just pulls back, you walk through, no climbing. Mud thick .

Cheers for the info lads. I'll be goin over when the tides ease off, there getting bigger the week, and from past experience its a bugger to hold the bottom as the tide pull there is immense in the middle (where im going).

lucky baz turds! been a bit quiet for me down there the last couple of visits so I went over to the walkway to catch a tiny flounder - saw you lads when I went over on the ferry.

Had a cracking sesh a couple of weeks ago when I took 19 whiting and a canny flounder in about 3 hours! pulled my first codling of the season out of there not long ago too.

yeah you can mate been down 2 times over the last week the fence is bent over further down seems to be a good mark bites off lil whiting and i mean lil whiting every 2 seconds was down with the lads on saturday had 30 to 35 fish in a small sesh nothing to write home about apart from a very nice flounder which was weighed at under a pound (mick ya scales are ****e) IT WAS AT LEAST 3 POUNDS it was the size of the top of a Shakespeare beta box lid very nice fish

LOL!!! It might have weighed 3 pound if I left me baited hook in it's gob :D:D
I took me scales to work and weighed a 300gm caibration weight and it read:
Grams - 300/305
ounces - 10.4 (10.4 x 28.35(oz) = 294.84gm = 1.72% error)
pounds - 0.66 (0.66 x 454(lb) = 299.64gm = 0.12% error)
..... theyr'e fine!

ok then mate it must have been hollow then tho if ya left the bait in that you were using on sat it would have been about six pounds lol
