Snapped Rod

Not been out on the yak for a while and I have just got a new Rovex pro lure spinning rod from an online store down east coast (won't mention name) for £25.
So thought I would try for some bass for a few hours on saturday, started off at the sumps at seaton sluice, all going well, nice casting and action to the rod. Decided to head round to Hartley for a try out so casts out and my plug became caught on some kelp on one of the rocks below me.
So I gave the rod a quick jerk and to my amazement the rod snapped on one of the eye whippings. Could not believe it as this has never happened before but I thought oh well, go home and e mail shop and they should replace as it obvious to me that it's a defect.

E mailed yesterday and explained what happened , they have said to return the rod but I should not have jerked the rod but I should have cut my line. They are going to send back to rovex to see if I can have a replacement but as it's an accident in there opinion they don't think they will

They say they have sold loads of there rods and it has never happened before.

Just wanted to see if people on here think I am being unreasonable asking for a replacement? I don't think that a rod in this day and age should snap so easy.
Any comments appreciated and I will keep you all posted how it goes but I am not hopeful.

Similar thing happened with my Bushwacker. If it snaps so early in its life and as long as you have looked after it then they should replace it.

Cheers mate! Well I only got it in post on Friday so was first time out on Saturday , brand new only about 2 hours use!

This happened to me a few months back, i bought a Shakespeare Salt Sporting Braid Rod £60.00, had a fast so jerked the rod 3 times and it exploded into 4 pieces :(. I normally wrap the braid round my priest and let the drift snap it off. These high carbon content rods are brittle when jerked unlike the ones with a percentage of fibreglass in them i.e Ugly Sticks. If it happens again say you were pulling a decent fish in when it snapped, that way they probably wont argue. I threw a wobbler and slung my rod over the side only to realise quickly the rings were brand new and i could have used them as replacements:mad:........Good Luck anyway mate hope you get it sorted..

should get your money back plus your postage costs and a few freebies to keep your custom, otherwise name and shame the supplier

snapped a shakespeare in2 beachcaster last night at cambois, went to cast a 4oz lead and it snapped in my hand :o, it was a cheapy so not arsed, luckily had old faithfull in the car. Ironic name as it is now in3

It had only fished for about 6 hours, brand new.

well im hoping so bud. Although the rod was only about £25 quid thats not the point, i expect any gear i buy to last more than a few hours.

i have other Rovex rods which i have used from my Kayak and they have been superb, cant fault them!! and have been snagged on wrecks before and pulled out no problems and no snaps.

like i say we will wait and see but im hoping they send a new one straight out.

Thanks for the replys so far lads:)
