Soft Plastic Lure Making

Very good service from lurefactors , I've been making my own baits for a while now, great hobby when the weather keeps you indoors.

Phase 1 has begun.....1st few Patterns are made.

Cheers Bassboyo, I've put a small piece of plastic stick in to slightly open the bottom part of the lure which accepts the hook. Just for pouring the RTV Silicone mould wasn't sure if it would stay open or seal up??

Looking good si , I have seen a few moulds made of some sort of hard resin and they looked prity good , havnt seen a silicone one yet and was wondering if. The silicone moulds are better for casting lures or just easier to make the moulds with

Phase 1 - Stage 2

Moulds are poured..... Mixing the Silicone was tougher than I thought. its really important to have a plastic measuring syringe to add the catalyst / hardener. I also gave the top a light spray of WD-40 to break the surface tension and allow the bubbles to pop.

Fingers crossed that they turn out ok!! I'll post the results of the Moulds when they are cured!

Well the moulds have come out quite well. I'm really pleased for my first attempt. I've learned a lot about this process and quickly picked you where some of the limitations and pitfalls are.

It's really important to ensure that the Pattern Lure is stuck firmly in place on the bottom of the mould box as the silicone will move it as I discovered on the minnow below:

On the plus side the plastic stick I used to ensure that the opening for the Weedless hook set-up was maintained seems to have worked!

Pleased so far but the proof will be in the pouring of the plastic!!

I wasn't planning on making them to sell, just for personal use and the moulds / lures aren't copies they are 'back-ups' - I'm simply backing-up my lure collection! Lol

When I get some new Lure Plastic I'll make you a few to try. The few I've made so far are just from old melted down lures. To be honest its that satisfying I can find myself getting into it in a big way. Double-sided moulds and HP's are on the horizon already! Lol
