1992 ish, India, Varanasi / Banares, early morning on the holiest part of the holiest river Ganges. *My edit - Diwali as well!!* Hired a boatman to take us into the middle, on the muddy far bank a partially cremated body was being torn apart by a pack of dogs, the other side of the river was an explosion of colour and activity as fazillions of pilgrims went all Rolf Harris. There was a weird fresh water dolphin tooling about our boat, a man with a beard handed me this piece of pottery what I sucked on (there was strange smoke in there!) and we watched a total eclipse of the sun, MENTAL. The 3 hippies we were with all leapt into the river to purify themselves (2 came down with orrible diseases
