Well lads me and my mate Chut (Blackrat) jumped in my motor yesterday and had a run over to the West coast. We were looking to catch Rays or Sharks.
We got to our mark on an outcrop of rock and it was dogfish from the start. Chut picked up a nice Smoothound and on my second last cast I caught this 12.5 lb Tope. Its the biggest fish I have ever caught. Just as I landed it the nylon trace on my hooks snapped. I was lucky as most of the day I had been using a wire trace but had changed to a mono pulley for dogfish or Bass.

Cheers Lads. When I saw the Tope in the water I nearly sh-t meself. It came in really easily and I honestly thought it was a Dogfish until the last few yards when it began to pull. Mind I was using some big guns my Tip Tornado and Mag 525 with 18lb mono and 60lb Blue Marlin

"Just as I landed it, my trace snapped". Is that the same as, Chut climbed down the rocks to the waters edge, wrestled with the Tope, handled it for me, and weighed it !!! Lol. Well done Mick, was over the moon for you....no doubt I will be hearing the story for the next ten years..ha ha

I've read elsewhere that Tope come in like a sack of spuds...

If it had been a 14lb Smut you would have known about it. Only fish I've ever caught that took line off me, and my pb was just short of 11lb.
